Food Waste Hack Competition Winners

We had some absolutely amazing ideas come through our food waste hack competition! Our staff voted for their favourites, and these were the top ones:

  • Offer to take leftover food home from parties or work functions instead of binning it.

  • Buy imperfect fresh food from the supermarket to send price signals to retailers that cosmetic standards should be loosened.

  • Look in the fridge prior to going shopping to see if you can come up with a meal using those first.

  • Plan meals for the week and only buy food that you will use.

  • Buy food from the greengrocer, butcher and baker in quantities you will use rather than having to buy in bulk from the supermarket.

  • Freeze leftovers in single serves to eat when you don’t have time to cook.

  • The roots of leftover veggies can be replanted to grow new ones (like celery, spring onions, herbs etc).

  • Cook veggie scraps up in a pot and add it to your dogs food bowl.

Everyone who entered went into the draw to win a $100 visa card, the lucky winners were:

  1. Crystal Attrill

  2. Declan Radford

  3. Kira Watson

  4. Barrie McClymont

  5. Amanda Brown

  6. Amy-Lee Emery

  7. Jacinta Chatwin
